Experience with rainbow stags

Hi guys,

I was just wondering if there’s a consensus on the care for Phalacrognathus muelleri? It’s hard for a beginner to decide what advice to follow but this all sounds like good info:

My beetles don’t seem very active at the moment. I see the female exploring the surface late in the evening fairly regularly now but still no sign of the male. I want to get this breeding project going and I’m starting to feel a bit antsy waiting for more activity. Don’t want to rush it though.

Thanks!

I briefly read the article. It looks well-made guide for public. Phalacrognathus muelleri is far from a species difficult to breed, that you can easily find more and more info on the web in English. I'm sure quite number of members here has experience with this species. :D

You could put them together in an enclosure full of sphagnum moss and beetle jellies.

When the male is ready he will mate with the female while she eats beetle jellies. Trust me, this species is easy to breed.

Thanks for the tips guys. I’ve since caught them in the act and left them over the weekend to hopefully have a better chance of the female being ready for laying. She’s now separated in a box with flake soil and 3 logs of medium soft white rotten wood. I left 3 jellies on the surface.

The female ale now seems to be eating a lot (even during the day) and her elytra don’t cover her abdomen anymore. Is that worrying or just a sign that she’s fertilised?

Thanks again guys!
