Eleodes osculans

My E. osculans colony is producing! I have at least 10 larvae so far, and it looks like they're a couple weeks old too. Hopefully they pupate well, I love the fuzziness of the adults!

 
Well, they're pretty small and I don't have a macro lens. But I can try to get photos with the camera I have.

Sorry I forgot to get pictures. But I have them now! 4 of them have dug out pupation chambers, hopefully they don't have trouble with disturbance. If they do, I'll have to separate them.

I've heard that Eleodes lavae need to be kept separate for pupation so let's try separating them into individual containers after they pupate.

They should probably be separated, because even if they are not disturbed and turn into pupa, they are defenseless against cannibalism, which will probably happen sooner or later. And congrats on getting larva! I think you may be the first to do this. Then again, I could be wrong. Good luck!

Thanks! Yeah, I'm gonna let those stay in their pupation chambers to see if they can be kept together without cannibalism like Tenebrio molitor, but I'll separate the rest of the larger larvae so that they can pupate in peace. I think What or some other Californian has gotten larvae from this species before. In my experience it's been pretty easy, and getting these larvae to pupation has been literally no work on my part.

 
Haha if he sells this species, it's probably the ones I sent him! Mine are in a semi-arid setup since that's the environment I found them in. I did about 50/50 sand and coco fibre (or peat moss, I don't remember).

Kyle and I had been going back and forth via email, trying to get an order for me and I'd asked if he had any adult Eleodes for my presentation. He just happened to have these in lol.
