Drying large beetles

Today was a tragic day, my first death of one of my large beetles, my biggest d. Granti.

So.... I was wondering what would be the best way to preserve him? I can't decide if I want to pin him or wrap him, but is there any special method to preserve him either way?

You need to let him dry. That's about it.
I recommend pinning him, and spreading his legs and antennae nicely for display, but only if you have entomological pins. If you don't have such pins, do not pin! You can keep the beetle relatively fresh in a closed box up to a month in the freezer if you want to obtain pins or pin it sometime later. Otherwize he will dry out and it will be difficult to arrange him for display.

Size 2 or 3 is a good size entomological pin for the beetle you are pinning. Stainless steel is softer but better for humid environments, but enameled spring steel is used the most.

Thank you guys! I've got plenty of pins so I will probably spread him tonight
