dog food

How should dog food be placed in a Dynastes Granti larva container? Should it be crumbled up? How deep should it be? And also is it necessary to give larva dog food for them to become major adults?

Do not use too much. Place a whole chunk on or in the substrate. Remove uneaten portion after five days. Supplements will greatly improve size and success but do not work by themselves and can kill larvae if employed foolishly.

Totally agree with orin. But my note was that i've found dry to be better than wet. Orin you want to speak to this?

I've used dry prescription cat food (CD) [my male cat's food] as it's less fatty, higher protein, and regulates breakdown more efficiently than dry dog food. As well, the granular sizes are significantly smaller and can be regulated around the Larvae. I've noticed larger bodied adults.

Purina Moist n Meaty dog food.

Place whole piece on substrate, or crumble to pieces and place on top of substrate. Personally I would recommend replacing the uneaten portions after three days, mites can quickly overcome a little deli cup in five days. You need to a also regulate the amount given according to the size of the grub being fed.
