Desert Community Tank

Just wanted to share my new community tank. Pictures here: https://imgur.com/a/vypLMV8

Build:

20 Gallon tank

Base of cocofibre (plantation soil) topped with calcium sand

Half log hide with apple flake soil (kept slightly more moist for the 'pedes)

Echeveria succulent

Inhabitants:

3x Texas Gold Millipedes (Orthoporus ornatus)

2x Blue Death Feigning Beetles (Asbolus verrucosus)

2x Smooth Death Feigning Beetles (Asbolus spp.)

1x Diabolical Ironclad Beetle (Nosoderma diabolicum)

Food:

Mostly fruit, dry cat food, beetle jellies

Tossed a couple strands of enoki mushroom in, which the Ironclad loved.

Hoping to add Wooly Darklings, Sonoran [chocolate] ornatus, and velvet ants. If I could find someone selling Edrotes ventricosus, I'd love some!

Nice setup! Make sure those O. ornatus get enough food; I don't see any rotting wood/rotting leaves in there, which millipedes need to survive.

I might be able to help you out with a Wooly Darkling, a velvet ant, and 3 Edrotes ventricosus depending on whether or not you are in the US.

Thanks,

Arthroverts

Good tank setup and good photos!  Don't feel too bad about the Diabolical Ironclad being hard to photograph.  I received one from Bugs in Cyberspace on 5/21/20.  I should have taken a better look at it with a magnifying glass while it was still in the mini deli cup.  As soon as I let it out, it ran inside a cork bark round --
I haven't seen it since!  🤣
