D.Tityus emerged too early! What do I do? Can I "induce" hibernation?

I am upset. I found 2 L3 larvae on a golf course in southern Maryland in a tree stump that was ground up by a stump grinder last February (I don't know how they managed to survive) They then pupated this summer and I assumed they would overwinter and hatch in the spring 2024. However, they are hatching in late November and are moving around (not good).

  • Should I feed it?
  • Should I try to "fish" it out of its cage/transfer it into another feeding cage? (problem is their is a dormant female next to it I don't want to disturb)
  • what do I do?
  • Put it in my cold garage? (I need it cold so it hybernates but I don't want to kill it/freeze it. It is currently in my basement 60 degrees F)

-thanks

60 might be plenty cold enough to get them through the winter but try the garage, just give a big jar of substrate.
