Cotinis mutabilis pupation

So I'm looking for any one out there who has experience with breeding fig eaters, specifically in regards to pupation. I started with a group of 12 and they grew fast and did great, until it came time to pupate. I knew about the difficulty they are know for but I tried to prepare best I could. Once they went yellow and started to wander I had dune sand and georgia red clay mixed in with the substrate with a ratio of one handful of sand and one of flake soil for every 3 handfuls of clay if that makes sense. Most wandered until they perished and only 4 made cocoons. I'm hoping they will be successful and I can get at least one pair and try again. But any advice from anyone who knows better than me would be great.

They're unfortunately an easy species for beginners to get but one of the absolute worst in captive pupation.
