I'm moving into a small apartment in a few weeks which means I won't have as much room for my beetle stuff. My set up right now is two large totes for my d.tityus pair. It was just one tote but once my females was gravid I realized the substrate had some mites so I moved her to a seperate tote with fresh substrate and just left the male in the old one. I now have containers for my larvae too (a couple lucanus, dtityus and d granti) but they don't take up much room.
So what I'm wondering is what is a good way to keep adults while maximizing space? I was thinking building a shelf almost like a snake rack that fits about 5 inch tall plastic containers that are about 2 feet wide and filling them with two inches of substrate leaving 3 inches of space between the top which would have air holes. Then I would have one or two deep containers which I would place the females in after mating to lay eggs in.
Does this seem like a decent idea? What do you keep your adults in and how small are the enclosures? Please post pictures if you can!
Thanks,
Jordan
