Breeding d. tityus

Yes. First off, fill up a nice sized tub of the substrate you will use. Make it about 7-10 inches high and compact it down, but not too hard. I like to lay a layer of heat treated dead oak leaves on top. This is just in case the female flips and cannot get up. On the top I put about 10 split jellies just as a start. You need to make sure the soil is damp but not wet. If it is too wet, it will start smelling like ammonia.

For the actual breeding container I like to personally see the male mate with the female. I do not like to throw them in the egg laying container expecting the best results, even though that works sometimes. I set up a medium Exo Terra Faunarium with very moist sphagnum moss. I throw a few jellies in with the beetles and usually witness mating in the next few days. After a few trials of mating I throw the female in the egg laying container.

After this, wait about a month or more to check for eggs. Through this time you need to replenish the females food supply. Pretty easy!
