Beetles of Eastern North America by Arthur V. Evans has been one of the most useful insect books I've ever had. It's extremely thorough, although some species are omitted due to being virtually identical to others. The book is divided into sections by family and every species has its own high quality photograph and technical key to identification, as well as brief collecting notes. Additionally, the first part of the book features a wealth of information on insect collecting, observing, trapping, and keeping, some of which is difficult to find elsewhere. In other words, if you live in the eastern United States and like beetles, I see no reason to not buy this book. Seriously, this is 500 pages of beetle knowledge for only ~$30. This sounds more like a sales pitch than a review, but I couldn't help but express how much I love this book.
