Aquatic beetles, what to feed them?

I am camping right now, and I found these little beetles:

Anyone know what to feed them?

how did you find them?

I don't know what species they are, I was hoping someone on here might

I have tried frozen brine shrimp, frozen blood worms, freeze dried blood worms, fish food, and lettuce. I am going to put some java moss from one of my fish tanks for them also.

I haven't noticed them eat anything yet, but they may be eating while I am gone.

They appear to be water scavenger beetles because they are carrying air on hydrophobic hairs on the ventral surface of the body. They will eat fish food. They are not aggressuve feeders like diving beetles or whirligigs.

Here is their tank

They have sand as the main substrate. There is a pet store bought piece of wood, algae ball, java moss, and willow moss. I put a bunch of rocks on the wood to keep it weighted down (and for decor) and then there is a cheap little filter I had laying around in there.

I counted about 15 of them

We found a little pool at the beach that had a ton of them. It also had baby clams (I took home a little over ten of them also

)

What else could I feed them? I haven't seen them eat anything yet, but they are always hanging onto the moss/algae balls.

Nice Setup

You should try putting them some natural algae

Nope, the algae ball and willow moss was store bought. The java moss was store bought also but their chunk is from one of my fish tanks.

I try to avoid putting wild collected plants in with my animals, as unwanted pest/diseases could come from them.

EDIT:

Does anyone know of any ways to possibly clean wild collected plants? The only thing I can think of is to rinse it out with some water but that would miss a lot of stuff in it.

Well, then again the beetles are wild collected to

hey i know some good foods that diving beetles enjoy. i sometimes give them feeder guppies but if u dont have them i get some sun dried anchobies. first i soak them in water for 1 day. then day after i rinse them with water and pu them on a dry suface to dry for one day. then sometimes i drop them dry so that beetles can eat as the anchobies become soft or u can put them on a water tray to make them soft and give it to them. i give 1 anchobies for each diving beetle. mine has lived like that for few months so its safe. all the washing and the drying is too wash off the salts in the anchobies.

oops that was for giant predacios beetles but i think anchobies would still work on them?
I think these are the black water scavengers like Orin suggested. I have yet to see them feed. They may be eating some of the java moss as the tiny leafs seem to be missing or something.

I am going to try some algae wafers as soon as I get some.

Thanks for the info though

If I ever get large predaceous water beetles I will remember that and maybe try it.
