adult D. tityus substrate

I’ve got two adult D. tityus beetles, one male and one female. They're just starting to be more active so I’m working on setting up a larger space for them (10gal tank for male, 1gal tank for female).

What I’d like to know is if anyone has used reptisoil and if it’s a good choice for my adult beetles? My initial thought is it would be great, especially with coco coir mixed in to lighten it a little so it doesn’t settle too quickly and become anoxic, but I’m curious what others have tried. I know that flake soil and coco coir are really popular and hard to beat choices for substrate, but flake soil is just too expensive and I don’t have the capacity currently to make it myself (though I’d love to get that set up), and in my experience coco coir on its own doesn’t hold moisture well.

Also, thoughts on using it to make a bio active setup with isopods and springtails as a cleanup crew? The only thing holding me back from this right now is how to have a drainage layer without my beetles trying to burrow into it and drowning themselves.
