Parasites or Fungus?

They seem pretty darn happy! One of my "spotty" beetles died today. There were no visible holes in the body. I put it in an air tight Tupperware to see what happens.

I would keep it for a while, a month or so. If it was a wasp it may take it a while to hatch.

 
I thought I would update in my "spotted goryi tank" a fly has emerged! I found the fly looking newly hatched with a white body. I have caught it in a jar (it couldn't fly when I found it) and it has turned dark gray since then. I will have to take pictures later.

Speaking as a fan of Tachinid flies, I'd have to say "nice". Worth hanging onto the specimens of both fly and host, many Tachinid hosts are still poorly known.

Thank you for the link, that is very interesting. I will have to give it a better read when I have more time. I'm not really sure what to do with the fly I "raised", I think I am going to let it go. I don't really want to raise tachinid flies. They are interesting and neat but I like the cute little beetles better, lol. Is there anything I should worry about with my other beetles or will I be OK with the lid on the "spotted goryi tank"?

 
Well, if you only have 1 fly well away from your other beetles there will be no problems. If it were me, the fly would be converted to a pinned specimen asap.

 
New development. I found a 3rd fly in my tank of beetles that were not spotted when I caught them. This time I dug around in the dirt and found a beetle body that appears to have no insides and a hole in it's abdomen. Pretty neat actually.

 
This is kind of cool. I have been holding on to one of the flies and it appears to have laid eggs on the side of the jar or at least deposits of the same shape and size as those I found on the beetles.
