i think it is longhorn beetle too but there is way too many species to go through, my personal opinion is to check the species where your located first, most likely it's correct but not definitely, i am not good at identify US species. i am curious do you find other type of native longhorn beetles.

They are in Rhode Island

 
if you try to breed it, longhorn are difficult to breed as general but there are info at the university.
Sounds like they would be they burrow into rotting wood or live plants.

But they may be the broad necked borers, and if so then the larva feed on roots

probably living trees, government are very nervous when they hear longhorn beetles, especially asian longhorn beetle, if you see them you know who to call. The BEETLE BUSTERS, i'm not afraid of longhorn beetles
