Lol I thought by the topic title you were going to try to breed wood... idk the answer to the question, however Lucanus might be the most knowledgeable about this species.

I don't recommend it either but L. elaphus larvae are sometimes found in pines so you can probably use them.

 
I think you could... in fact I know you could... but it lowers your chances. I'm rearing experimental larvae on pine and it's not as good.

 
do u mean lowering the chance of survival or size? and do i really need rotting wood?
Yes, you do... if you NEED some really bad and you can't find it, just ask a member here.

I actually find lots of good rotten wood. I could sell you some for dirt cheap, as long as you pay the shipping.
