hi everybody!!
im super new to beetle rearing (so new in fact i have yet 2 rear a single beetle :[ ) so far ive gotten a total of 3 larva and 2 have died. the first death i understand what happened but with this most recent one i have no idea what went wrong, considering how the larva seemed to be doing just fine since i got it in february.
so, it's been in a pupal cell at the bottom of its plastic enclosure for a few months i believe, which seems normal! my room gets quite cold so when i got a space heater i kept it close to the heater at a low temp just to keep it cozy(though im definitely investing in a heating pad!!). it was very lively and squirmy for quite awhile in the cell but very very recently it has gotten an unnatural looking brown color and looks a bit. slimy
. i know this because i can see through the bottom of the container partially into the cell, im not disturbing the larva. ive been trying to keep the substrate moist rigorously, idk if there was too much water or what!
im just a bit disheartened, it was my first larva and it seemed to be doing quite well! im not sure how to learn from this though aside from improving my admittedly rudimentary set up
thank you everybody!
