Big surprise

So I decided to pull a few larvae that looked ready to pupate out of my mixed species desert beetle tank and set them up in a pupation chamber expecting to get some more little black darklings(species unknown) like I did last time I tried this and to my amazement I got this. Meet my freshly emerged Nyctoporis carinata

I'm so excited, they are my favorite beetles. Now I wish I would have paid more attention to the larvae, but darn if they don't all look pretty much the same. Nyctoporis.jpg

Congrats? How did you breed it though?
They didn't need any help from me, lol. I have 4 Nyctoporis in the mixed species tank, all the beetles in there have been laying eggs the whole time I've had them. The tank has a moist corner in it for larvae to grow in but the substrate isn't deep enough for them to pupate I've just been pulling random larvae that looked ready to pupate and put them in empty deli cups in a larger container with about 1" of moist cocofiber in the bottom and a tight fitting lid on it with a few pinholes for ventilation. They need the humidity but can't have any moisture actually in their cups or it will kill the pupae. I fed the larvae dry cat food while they were growing.
