Which substrate do you use?

Aspen wood shavings that are used for animal bedding is something I mix into my substrates. It's good "filler", if not the most nutritious ingredient.

I have never heard of anyone using BBQ wood pellets for larvae. What brand did you use? Did you raise grubs in 100% wood pellets or mix it with soils? Do you add any leaves? I would be interested in trying this as hardwood can be quite hard to find in south Florida. We have mostly Pine or Cypress with little live oak.
