Went Looking

so I went into the woods looking for beetles and saturniids, only found a firefly and a really odd red wormish thing. anyway, I was wondering how to go about finding Lucanus capreolus.

1. how deep into rotting logs must I look?

2. what do I do if I find any?

3.will they be more in logs or tree hollows?
