Do beetles eat any kind of tree sap?

like pine trees.. or does it have to be oak

I don't think any species of Lucanidae and Dynastidae feed on Pines. Even Ceruchus sp. are found at tree saps of decidious trees.

I've never observed stag beetles feeding on tree saps in the wild because here in Alabama it is so hot that the tree saps dry out within a day or two. However, I've seen pictures of D. tityus feeding on the branches of Maple trees.
