Why is it in a wash cloth instead of a jar with damp dirt for the time being?Woah! I just checked outside - they're everywhere! Guess it's because of the rain....
I'd try and get some eggs personally...I like the silvery sheen on some of their elytra if this species is what I think it is...Thanks! I heard they like sweet potatoes too. Well, I just happen to have a can of some in my cabinet. And he was knawing on it, and he fell asleep right beside it and still is snoozing right now(I picked him up to make sure he was sleeping and not dead). Do you think sugar beetles do better in pairs? Just trying to make him as comfortable as possible.
I only find them on my porch, I didn't know what the exact substrate would be. But thanks for the info! I'd also like to know, do insects require sunlight? Or will he be fine with just normal house lighting? I don't open my blinds in my room(where he stays) because I often leave them open without noticing and embarrassing things have happen. Sunlight also causes yellowing. But my room's light is always on.Why is it in a wash cloth instead of a jar with damp dirt for the time being?
Most scarabs do not require light, as far as I know.I only find them on my porch, I didn't know what the exact substrate would be. But thanks for the info! The closest thing I could find was some old mulch mixed with dirt. He enjoys burrowing.....and staying there. But I just looked at him and I can see him moving around under the dirt. Are sugarcanes a burrowing species? I'm having a hard time looking up info about them, cause all the internet gives me is results on how to get rid of them cause they are considered a pest. Is it possible he may "suffocate" under the dirt? I'm kinda worried, cause when I found my last sugar cane beetle dead, he was under his wash cloth. Most scarabs do not require light, as far as I know.
I'd try and get the substrate to consist of at least rotting hardwood and rotting hardwood leaves, both of which should be crushed up.
