Substrate Filter

I've read that substrate can be filtered to save some if the larvae haven't eaten it yet. I was just curious to what people used to filter their substrate (assuming they do, of course)?

I do it by hand. Because of all the different sizes of stuff in the substrate, I find it impossible to do it any other way. Substrate, at least for Dhh, is hard to come by and expensive, so I use every bit of it. The frass from my Dhh larva is large, so it's fairly easy, but time consuming. As for others species, maybe there is a better way.

all i do is shake the container, then all the feces will come up, get a spoon and scoop them up. Fairly easy, but time consuming.

I just use a large strainer got mine for $2 at goodwill. Just put the substrate shake it and typically the pellets are all on top.

Sounds simple. Figure I should save as much substrate as I can since winter is just around the corner and I'm going to head out later this week to get a good amount of wood and rotting leaves.

I will make a video of me collecting hundreds of feces when i change the sub in my larva tub next month if your interested lol
