Stag larvae ID

Collected these out of a chunk of wood about 16" wide and 24" tall. There were quite a few of them. They're about as big as a dime.

The "consistency" of the wood we found them in:

I'm starting to think the above larvae are some other beetle, maybe Osmoderma?

I'm pretty sure these are stags; These were collected from a completely different site; I managed to find 5 (the mosquitoes were killing me!) Underneath is the type of wood they were found in; kinda reddish. They're about 3/4 the size of a dime.

I'm seeing what you're seeing, Zephyr. Nice finds!

That red wood looks more like conifer than deciduous???

The 3 larvae in the first thread are probably Valgus sp.

The larva in the second thread is Ceruchus sp.
