Phalacrognathus muelleri breeding

Hey guys Im new but Im currently trying to breed rainbow stag beetles and what i did was use normal flake soil and then put a block of kinshi (Pleurotus ostreatus) as i heard this would be a decent substitution for oak and beech wood. I then buried it as well and compressed everything except the upper layer. I noticed the other day though that the mycelia started to spread to the flake soil and was wondering if perhaps that would hinder the breeding process.

You don't need to put a block of kinshi. Flake soil alone is sufficient for egg laying. To answer your question, the mycelia would not hinder the breeding process.

thank you very much i got kinda worried 😅. do you happen to know if 8L of substrate is enough? or would more be better.

All depends on the size of the container. Just make sure that the depth of the substrate is at least 17cm. They are relatively easy species to breed so I'm sure you will have no problems breeding them. Good luck :)

Kinishi is not required or necessary in Phalacrognathus muelleri breeding. A lot of records indicated This species can be reared into large males with substrate alone. You just have to take a good care of them. Any container you can find in your local that is larger than 32 oz should be good enough. 8 L is great amount, but I would suggest you to keep one larva in a 1L container than in such a huge one... (Not suggesting many in one huge container either).
