My Pasimachus sp. beetle has been dragging it's prey under the substrate lately. It's taken 2 fairly good sized roaches in the last 2 days. My question is do they eat underground or is it stashing food? I don't want a bunch of dead or half eaten roaches where I can't get to them to remove them.
It spends most of it's time underground so when I see it on the surface I'm assuming it's hungry and is hunting. I've been feeding it about every couple of days, but it's been out 2 days in a row and it was very insistent on taking this roach today, when I saw what it was doing I grabbed the roach with tweezers and pulled it out part way out of the burrow and the beetle came flying out of the ground and yanked it right back so I let it be. Is this normal behavior? I believe they hibernate, could it be preparing for that? There just isn't a lot of information out there.
