So, about a week ago my friend and I went hunting in the woods (bug hunting, not he other kind). As we were chopping open a log, we found several of these small-medium sized brownish black beetles, normally I would’ve dismissed them as chafers, but was interested by their larger abdomens and what appeared to be bumps on the head, which were almost shaped like horns. I had never seen these beetles before and was thus somewhat distressed by my inability to identify them (its rare that I come across a scarab that I can’t identify in the woods, and this sparked a lot of poking fun by my friend) once I got home, I started searching and quickly found the species to be Parastasia Brevipes, a species of ruteline scarabs. Sadly I couldn’t find any info online, or in the ultimate guide for actually breeding these beetles, but have seen the grubs, what’s interesting is that they only seem to be found in a very specific, and quite uncommon, rot of wood, which has a reddish color (I had seen the grubs before but never the adults). Anyways, as of course, the reason I come here is to ask if anyone has experience with this species, knows anyone who does, or can point me in the direction of any texts that outline the breeding and rearing of these guys. Thanks in advance!
