Megasoma Sleeperi and Removing Beetles From Pupal Cells

Hey everyone, I'm finally getting beetles. I picked up Megasoma Sleeperi from BiC. I'm really excited and I have all my supplies and substrate ready. I have Orin McMonigles book and I'm planning to breed them like Megasoma Punctualis. I have asked Peter many questions on breeding them. (Maybe too many questions) Do any if you guys breed Megasoma Sleeperi or other Megasomas? Any special things you need to do?

Second, Megasoma Sleeperi is supposed to live for about 2-4 weeks. It also says that they emerge after a while from their pupal cells. Should I remove them from their pupal cells once they have hardened to increase the likelihood of breeding?

Never had sleeperi before but from experience with other beetles, removing them from their pupal cells most likely won't increase your chance of breeding them. Once they harden they'll need some time (either in their pupal cells or in an artificial environment like damp paper towel) before they start becoming active and feeding. Then, they will attempt to breed.

I have bred other Megasomas before and they are nothing different than breeding Dynastes. Highly decomposed wood and plant pressed down firmly in a container with some depth. They'll do the rest.

Again, this is all from breeding other species, not sleeperi, so keep that in mind. Also, if you wouldn't mind sharing what you already know about sleeperi, I would really appreciate it!

 
Getting some sleeperi too! I thought that it was six to eight weeks of lifespan, but that probably just means theyre easy to get eggs from .

Well, I hadn't really heard about Sleeperi until I asked Peter what rhinos he would have in stock. I'm hoping to make some good notes on breeding Sleeperi and put some well needed information (there is LITERALLY no info online on breeding them) on the internet for everyone to see.
 
You can raise M sleeperi exactly how you raise M punctulatus. I just started 2 years ago but I have a friend that has been doing it for 30 years and has bred many generations of them. So it's easy as pie.

Oh and Peter raised his M sleeperi exactly how he raised M punctulatus and had great results.
