Mating stag beetles

Hey yall! So I got a few new stags yesterday, c. Metallifer and o. Ludekingi to be exact, and Im not totally sure how to get them to mate. I put them both in the egg laying setup together, but the female seemed to show no interest in mating and burrowed down after a few minutes. Im assuming Im doing this wrong, and I need some help.

Well I would, maybe it’d work for cyclommatus, but O. Ludekingi males are fairly aggressive, and I don’t want to risk leaving them in a small container with little substrate depth for more than a few minutes. Also, I just learned that these did hatch very recently.

Yeah I know that, they actually finally mated last night, and I took out the male afterwards. Now its time for cyclommatus metallifer to mate lol.

They're probably in hibernation. You could put them together in a container with moist sphagnum moss and food once they stop burrowing and start wandering. Make sure beetle jellies are in there. Make sure to monitor them because the male could easily kill the female.

Oh wow I didnt know that Cyclommatus went into hibernation! The male does seem to wander and eat a lot, but the female rarely emerges, I need to catch her and put her in a smaller container to monitor her lol. Yes theres plenty of food for them in the cage.
