They are illegal in California. You would have to get a PPQ526 permit to keep them legally. And yes they are "plant pest" because they feed off of decaying wood which is plant material according to APHIS. (I don't really agree with decaying wood being plant material but the law says so)The laws are too confusing. I checked California's list, and it said that lucanidae was allowed! And they are not plant pest. I don't really know the extent of the laws, but I could not find a decisive answer. I just decided to go for it. It worked well. The US has stupid laws
I agree. It’s easier to legally own a monkey then exotic stags, flower, and rhino beetles.Oh. The Us has the stupidest laws. If only It could be like Europe.
