In Search of Smooth Spider Beetles.

Anyone able to find a group of Smooth Spider Beetles, Gibbium aequinoctiale, around their house? lol I've scoured the web for them already and oddly no one seems to have any around!

If you're looking specifically for Gibbium aequinoctiale I don't know if you'll have any luck, but on here cfreidsma was selling starter colonies of Mezium americanum. If those will do and she's no longer selling them or you can't get in touch with her, I can send you a starter colony.

Thanks for the offer, but yep, I'm looking specifically for Gibbium. They're more common than Mezium from what I've seen online, but oddly enough they haven't made it to culture while Mezium has.

I got some spider beetles from her almost two years ago now and have a thriving colony. BTW are you sure what she has are M.americanum? I never saw her mention a species; I'm pretty certain that they're M.affine and that's what I've been selling them as.

I am absolutely not sure, LOL, that was my best guess and I'm no entomologist.  They very well may be M. affine. Good luck finding Gibbium, and if you do get some let me know if you plan to sell any little starter colonies when you get them established!

There's something about an interruption in the "setal collar" that I remember being different from americanum or something like that. lol
