Hercules Hercules larvae

Hello, I acquired 2 male and 2 female Dyanastes Hercules Hercules larvae. I hope to raise these to imagoes and breed them. I have a couple questions.

1. Because the male tends to emerge much later than the female I have heard that if you keep the male and female larvae in the same container they tend to emerge closer to together, but they might be smaller. Is this true?

2. I have also heard that placing a small amount of dog food in the container helps with growth. Is this true?

I am thinking on rasing one pair separate and the other pair together unless one of you more experienced directs me otherwise.

Thank you,

Steve

1. yes, however they need to be in a 30L container.

2. dog food does help, but not much, substrate is always more important than dog food. Also, dog food causes mites/nematodes

Adding decayed leaves can help them grow very well. I hate the smell of that dog food. Especially after it sits there for a few days.

I got about 43 dynaste tityus larvae at L3. They were born last July, so I got another long 12 months to wait to see the adults. Hoping my 94 Lucanus elaphus L3 Larvae will successfully become adult next spring. So far I have no mote issues. I constantly replace the top substrate with fresh half-decayed wood b/c these guys are voracious. I guess they need a lot of wood to grow big. I give the dynaste larvae more decayed wood and seem to be doing fine. but they spend 18 month under soil as larvae and pupa. Need a lot of patience. Also planning to breed Idolomantis diabolica and Orchid mantis for my next breeding project. They will keep me very busy.
