The Mantis Menagerie Fresh Imago Feb 5, 2021 #4 Bugs in Cyberspace larvae gave me a 3:1 male:female sex ratio out of four grubs, but that may hold true for the larger population as well.

That's an interesting question, I would think that males in any insect population would outnumber females, given the female insect's ability to lay multiple ova, and in large numbers with some species. Now I've got something new to think about. Otherwise perhaps, like in beetles, males wouldn't be built for fighting if every male had a mate, although there is the gene pool to consider, with females wanting the best mate.

Fire Moth L3 Mar 17, 2021 #9 It makes sense if the specie lays more eggs per female. It would have less females within the population.
