Does larvae shrink before it pupates?

One of my blue death beetle larvae is either molting or turning into a pupa...I can't tell right now...but it doesn't look as big as the other grub I've seen in the tank so maybe it's just molting? It's snow white right now.

It's recently molted. Insects that have molted recently and have not had a chance for their exoskeletons to tan and harden have a pale coloration.
