DHH larva losing weight

I purchased Dynastes hercules hercules last year, and one of the larvae is shrinking and losing weight. I used my own homemade flake soil, but the others are doing fine on that same substrate. All of them are already L3. Something strange I noticed was that the larvae kept in smaller containers (32 oz) seemed to do better or at least grow quicker. The larva losing weight is in a very large container. Humidity is good, at least in my opinion. I have reared D. tityus to adulthood and this had never happened.
