Darkling Beetle Cage Size

Hello all!

My son's D. tityus passed away a while back, we were unable to find a female for him

, and we have replaced him with a tank full of different darkling beetles. We have had them for almost two weeks now and have been very happy with our choice. The question I am having trouble finding the answer to is how many beetles can fit comfortable and happily inside a standard size 10 gallon aquarium? And how many different types? So far everyone seems happy and healthy and I'd like to keep it that way.

Here is the set up I created:

Yay! We have 8 right now and are getting another 3 Blue Death Feigning Beetles (Asbolus verrucosus)on Wednesday. The videos and pictures I have seen online seem to have a lot of beetles in a tank but it is hard to determine what size tank (or Rubbermaid container) the beetles are in. I'd also like to take a field trip to a local park with my kid and see what we can find.

The only problem I see with having community tanks with darklings is the larva (if they have any) get mixed up and it gets hard to ID them.

You can fit A LOT of darklings in that

I have 15 in a 6 quart tote/container and they seem to be doing fine.

I highly recommend you to read The Complete Guide to Rearing Darkling Beetlesit, by Orin, is a must for Darkling beetle aficionados and profecionales.

I almost bought it when I got my beetles but figured I could find the information on the internet, as it is with a lot of things, but I'm finding out that is just not true when it comes to beetles. lol I will but it in the morning.
