So after losing three to various pupation issues, one of my pupating rhinoceros beetles finally emerged yesterday! However, it looks like after crawling from his tissue-lined cell, he took some spills and a couple things seem to have gone wrong...
This is my first time doing much with male beetles, so I am not sure what this protrusion is, but whatever is is it seems like it got tugged a little while he was scooting out of his pupa.
He's very friendly otherwise and I'm happy to have him, but I'm worried it might have to do with his digestive system and that he may be suffering as a result.
Additionally: could the fact that his elytra look like this be the reason his wings haven't gotten folded under them? I haven't seen him open up his elytra. Maybe he doesn't have enough room in the case I'm keeping him in?
Any thoughts?
