Lately I have been searching in the woods for rotting wood and logs for breeding. Rotting Oak is scarce and it's hard to find a full log; it's mostly in pieces. I have been finding black birch in good numbers with very strong decay. After heat treatment to kill centipedes and click beetle larvae, would black birch be a good contestant to rear major imago? I would be using whole pieces as breeding logs for females to lay eggs in.
