Always check your logs!

It has been a very long time since the last generation of females laid their eggs, and today I noticed the log i have been keeping with the adult male dorcus alcides (who is almost 2 years old) had chewed up material inside and plop, 2 very small female larvae fall out of this bone dry log that I had assumed the female had not laid in, this generation of females just active so the time scale is around 6 months! The survivability of dorcus is whack! dorcusdorcus (4).jpg
