    Lucanus Elaphus habitat question

I've been blacklighting frequently for the past year, my main goal has been getting lucanus elaphus. But in this time I've become a little puzzled in where they seem to be common or not, and was wondering if anyone had some insight. I had mainly been blacklighting in 2 locations (no sightings...

Any stag beetle experts able to ID this grub?

I'm admittedly not the best photographer (especially when the subject is squirming around) but I tried to get as good of a shot as possible of the head.  Found in KY, USA.

    Dorcus Parallelus

Another catch from a few days ago. Size scale.  If you're wondering, the female I was using as bait.  I'm not sure if it actually worked but I did catch a male so maybe?

    Larvae black legs

My stag beetle larvae has been just sitting at the bottom of it's container for over a month.  I checked on it today and noticed one of it's legs looked black, I think others had black tips.  I'm guessing this is not good, is he on his way out?  He's still moving.

How long can stag beetle larvae go without food?

I found some stag beetle larvae about two years ago when I originally posted, since then I was occasionally changing out their media, but I actually don't remember the last time I changed it now, it's been probably at least 6 months.  I remember someone mentioning that if they need food they...

Is this going to be an issue?

I drilled a small hole in the bottom of my container I am rearing one of my beetle grubs in to let excess water drain out from when I moistened the media.  My grub found this hole 2 days ago, and although he can't fit through it, he has been biting at it non stop for the past two days ( it's...

    Sexing stag beetle larvae

http://maria.fremlin.org/Fremlin_Hendriks_EB_2014.pdf I was reading the above article, and on the second page it mentions two ways to sex a cervus, is this universal for all stag beetle grubs, for example north american species?  From what I understand the first method, looking for the black...

    Stag beetle larvae molted

I found this larvae yesterday, I was planning on moving it into a container that it can live in but when I checked it this morning it looks like it molted.  Is there a time frame that I should avoid handling this?  I assume since it is still all white it needs some time to harden.  (sorry for...

    Stag beetle larvae?

Is anyone able to confirm if this is stag beetle larvae or not?  Found this one under a log, there was a smaller one as well.  I have seen bess beetles in the same forest so I'm just trying to confirm it's not one of those.  It looks like it has the Y shaped anus with two big lobes, which I read...

    Catching stag beetles

Hello all, Just had a few questions, apparently there are elephant stag beetles where I live, so I've been kinda on a mission to find some.  No luck with beetles but I think I did find some larvae of some kind of stag beetle.  I was considering hanging some traps but had a few questions: 1) ...
