    Beetles not eating?

So, a week or so ago I moved my D. tityus male in with my females that were hibernating still. The females have surfaced, or at least one of them has, but has not eaten. The male didn't seem to have any issues eating prior to moving him. However, now he doesn't seem to be touching his food or...

    Disturbing pupa?

So I am pretty sure that on 4/21, or earlier, my two male Allomyrina dichotoma made pupal cells and may have pupated. I am wanting to disturb them and check and take photos if they are indeed pupa. Any suggestions about doing so or would this be advised against? If I was to do so, how should I...

    My surprise this morning

So, I went to check on my larvae as usual and found that one of them were on the floor. How this happened was I had just a breathable fiber closer material over the container and she chewed through it. This is my Allomyrina dichotoma larva, who is supposed to be pupating soon. I am almost...

    Dynastes Hercules L3 Molt

This is my favorite larva out of all the ones I have because it seems to have a segment deformity. It just recently molted to an L3. It's cute and I named it Crinkle.

Is rotted birch good for rhino beetle larvae? Still on the hunt. How does this look? Do you think this contains enough cellulose for the rhino beetle larvae to eat?

    Mold on logs?

I have some logs in my D. tityus enclosure and found that they are growing mold. Is this detrimental to the beetle's health? I figure I could heat-treat them again to kill the mold, but does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!

    Small worm-like things in sub

I was checking on my beetle larvae and on the inside crawling along the sides (of only some) are a lot of small little white worm-like things. Does anyone have any idea what these might be? I will have to change out the substrate, but was wondering if anyone had a clue...or if they're...

    Rotted wood

When gathering rotted hardwood for my beetles, I aim to get the parts of wood that I can physically crumble in my hands into a soil-like composite. However, I've two different logs I gathered from and one is dark, dark and completely able to be crumbled. The other one is rotted as well as it's...

    Surfacing L3?

I don't understand what I'm doing wrong. I may have to completely change substrate out with new rotted wood I recently gathered. When do L3 Allomyrina Dichotoma stop eating prior to building pupal cell? I found that one had surfaced..not sure why. It lost over 5g since last weighing and...

What type of long horned beetle is this?

My friend found this in her house and I'm having difficulty identifying it. These are the only pictures I have and she says it's more yellow/white with red legs? And possibly white spots on underside? Although the photo looks a bit green/blye. Found in Connecticut. Any ideas exactly the...

    Depth of substrate?

How many inches of substrate is it necessary to have in order for allomyrina dichotoma to pupate? I feel they should have pupated already. Could this be due to weather (as it is cold)? Not enough substrate depth? I know length of my container is enough, but I'm second guessing the depth now...

I purchased two female Dynastes tityus beetles from Nathan. They arrived in just two days and in wonderful condition. They are my first beetles to care for and I'm excited for the experience. Thank you, Nathan, for the great service!
