How often should I feed P.diabolicus?

My recently acquired specimen was extremely sluggish and moves for only short periods each day. Last night I caught it moving, and it walked on top of an apple slice without trying to eat, so I assume it is full and ate something while I was not looking.

    On importation

Importation of most beetles is supposed to be illegal in the US. I know that despite being exotic A. dichotoma is legal since it is captive bred and no longer imported. So why do I hear reports of C. metallifer and P. muelleri in America? I have also seen a video of Prionotheca coronata from...

    How to excavate logs

I recently found a large number of rotten, dark black logs and stumps in an area, and saw several termites and a wood cockroach nymph when I peeled a small chunk off. However, most of the wood was too hard to break off by hand. Does anyone know of any methods or equipment for help in opening...

Megasoma sp. Female - ID needed

Found this sitting on a palm stump on a beach while on vacation in Mexico. After trying to pry it off the stump and then have it cling so tightly to my hand it left red marks, I now know what Orin is referring to when the Ultimate Guide says "Dynastes Tityus hangs on tightly with claws". Ouch.

    Thread For Your Beetle Stories

As winter approaches nearer, many adult beetles are either hibernating or dead, and larvae are still very small. Why not share some memorable beetle hunt stories and interesting experiences?

    Dog food

I recently got a small bag of beef flavored treats but my Coniontis and Zophobas were repulsed, possibly because of the strong beef smell. What kind of dog food is commonly used? Kibble that comes in large bags? Canned moist food?

    A mantid

Similarly, the members' posting rate is dropping like flies also. Perhaps this mantis which returned multiple times to the yard will cheer you all up? (in CA, insects rarely die from the cold - by winter they perish of old age.) Any idea on the species?

    C. mutabilis

As stated in my rather pessimistic introduction, the fig beetles I was waiting for back then are now flying through the air right now! How should I attract them within reach?

    Very unusual lifespan

This is going to sound outrageous. With only one exception (a female which died last week of old age), all of the superworm beetles that hatched last summer/fall and didn't die of unnatural causes are still alive today! Any idea why they are living more than twice as long as their normal...

    Sexing superworms as larvae?

Has anyone ever attempted to sex superworms in their larval stage?
