Major male rhino beetle horn broken off, probably going to die.

During shipping, the tip of the horn on my major male rhinoceros beetle cracked off. It is now leaking a white substance. There's probably nothing I could do for him, right? If there is, please let me know. So pissed about this.

Import permit, would you do it under this circumstance?

I want to import at least 3 species, one being the recently legal Goliathus goliathus. The process seems easy but the last step is entering my social security number on the site. It is required so there is no way around it. I am paranoid about identity theft, etc. I just get worked up about that...

    Hilarious mistype

So I received a beetle pillow for Christmas and noticed something was off. I searched the scientific name of the European stag beetle they named Phalacrocorax auritus on the pillow. Come to find out this is a double-crested cormorant bird. They should have put Lucanus cervus! Pretty funny mistype.

How To Make Substrate for Rhinoceros Beetle/Stag Beetle Larvae

Alright guys, so I checked up on my substrate today and this picture is the end result. It is a nice dark color and has an earthy smell. I noticed that the substrate with wheat bran in it fermented faster than the one with flour in it. The buckets with the flour in it did not ferment all of the way.

Looks like dung, smells like dung

Checked on all of my substrate buckets today and found one that was damper than the others. As I mixed the bucket, the substrate started to smell like dung. Closer to the bottom, the wood was pale. This part smelled the worst. I could compare the scent to canine excrements. Wish I could use it...
