I've collected D. granti in Arizona on two occasions, but I'd like to hear some collecting experiences of people who have found Dynastes tityus. For example, if you find one beetle in a particular area are you likely to be able to find a few more that same night, or is it pretty hit and miss...

This species was collected in the forested mountains on the North shore of Lake Chapala, Mexico. It appears similar in coloration to ones I've seen in Southern Arizona, but is more elongate. Anybody out there with info? What is the life cycle?

I photographed this poor bee in my backyard the other day. The bee was just coming out to experience its first spring. It appears to be overrun with mites. I'm going to send the photo to the Xerces.org folks (local invertebrate conservation society) to see what they say about it.

Okay, let's say I manage to collect a male and female specimen (or more) of a good-sized waterbeetle species. What is the trick to getting these things to breed and reproduce? I know nothing of their habits or habitat requirements.

Is this a firefly?

I was blacklighting in my parents backyard in Mexico in June of 2006. This beetle flew in. Anybody have an idea what it might be? Of course, I had to leave it (and all the other great bugs I found) at my parents home, in Mexico. I'll probably retire there, someday. Oh, I put it on the lantana...
