    Conibius seriatus

A pretty new micro Teneb I'm working with. Might be a new state record for Idaho! Seem to be associated with ant nests, but so far they appear to breed in captivity readily outside of said nests. :)

Diabolical Ironclad Beetle (Phloeodes diabolicus) PSA

TLDR; The proper, current name for this species is Phloeodes diabolicus, NOT "Nosoderma diabolicum". Now here's the actual explanation in layman's terms, because I know there's a lot of confusion regarding this species and which name to use. So once upon a time, there were two different...

    Eleodes (Blapylis) sp. "ID"

One of the cutest Eleodes species here in Idaho, unfortunately I have yet to get an ID beyond subgenus, (which, given the number of species in that subgenus and the fact that many of them look so similar to each other, isn't that surprising). Easy to breed and rear, prolific too, makes for a...

    Eleodes rileyi

A cute little species, easy to get to oviposit, and quite prolific. Large larvae can have weird die offs at times, but those that survive to maturity pupate and mature with relative ease.

    Eleodes obscura sulcipennis

One of the larger US Eleodes species, and certainly the largest here in Idaho. Finally got larvae from this species, after having failed previously back in 2014, so hopefully I can rear said larvae up to maturity with little issue! 😁

    Iphthiminus serratus

Attempting to breed these beautiful forest Tenebrionids, I assume they'll be similar in terms of husbandry towards Alobates, but seem to have a preference for rotten pine rather than hardwood... The adults also don't seem nearly as picky when it comes to food. So far no eggs or larvae have been...

    Chalcolepidius spp?

Has anyone here ever bred or tried breeding Chalcolepidius species before? I feel as though they'd be no more difficult to breed than other large Elaterids like Alaus or Pyrophorus in captivity, sure would love to see some established in captive culture.

My Opinion: Trilobite Beetles (Platerodrilus spp.) In Captivity

I've been seeing a lot of posts in breeder groups lately of people showing off their trilobite beetles, those posts usually get a ton of likes and comments from jealous hobbyists who want some themselves. Now a lot of people seem to think they are very difficult to keep in captivity, but the...

    Anyone try these?

Would these pellets here work for fermenting sawdust? https://www.amazon.com/Pit-Boss-Pellets-Competition-Blend/dp/B00MS3WYXI Says it's a mix of Maple, Hickory and Cherry wood, is that OK or is the Hickory gonna be harmful to any inverts that eat it?

    Sawdust not fermenting?

I made a bunch of sawdust from grill pellets a week ago and added flour and yeast, however it has not gotten warm at all like it's supposed to, and smells like rotten fruit and dirty socks. What does this mean exactly, do I need to add more of something?
