Will a female beetle lay eggs if her enclosure doesn't contain flake soil?

Hi! I have Xyloryctes Thestalus and Ox beetles (Strategus Aloeus specifically), and am wondering if the females will lay eggs in non-flake soil substrate. I was originally planning on having them lay in their habitat's substrate, then moving the eggs into flake soil cotainers later, but I'm not sure if they will even lay the eggs to begin with. Does anyone have any experience with this? Thank you!

I've had flower beetles such as Cotinis lay in topsoil as well as Granti but they didn't lay a large amount. So some beetles will lay in non flake soil but you tend to have better results using flake soil in my experience. Secondly Xyloryctes appear to be a hard genus to get to lay with not many sucess story to my knowledge.

that's what I assumed, but I wasn't sure. Also, I didn't know that fact about xylorcytes lol. To be fair my main goal is to breed the ox beetles, I only have newly wild-caught female xyloryctes so I was hoping that they may have already mated before being sent lol. Thanks a lot tho! Do you think I could bury a cup of flake soil in their enclosure in order to not waste it by mixing it with their enclosure substrate?

I have bred ox beetles in a substrate comprised of around 60% well-rotten leaves, the rest being wood and compost.
