Can anybody identify this beetle?

I don't think that is a Pleocoma.

SO it should be a MAy beetle.

Are these native to California? Every year loads of beetles that look like that show up at porch lights and such here.

Andrew- I'm not sure if that particular species would be in California, but the pattern of behavior sure fits. There were quite a few of these flying to the blacklight-lit sheet I put up and even to the windows of the incandescent-lit house.
