    unknown cricket

I've had this guy since August 29, caught at Lost Lake in Linn county Oregon. I'm not sure what he eats, but I'm doing something right, because it has grown. My guide for North American  Crickets and Katydids and Grasshoppers doesn't offer much help. I think this might be a "grig"

    Eleodes armata

My new capture from central Oregon, it was lurking under the uv light when I was scooping up Smerinthus cerisyi. Currently living safely indoors eating oats and beetle jelly. Have mercy, I'm still getting the hang of resizing pictures.

    Goliathus pupation

I have 3 goliathus grubs, and 3 days ago the female, albeit a bit small at 40 grams decided to begin pupation. I followed some instructions I saw in a video- they did not work. 2 baseball size balls of clay covered with substrate, at that point, I began trying everything else I could think of...

    Goliathus goliatus weight gain

I've been keeping track of the weights of my 2 male and 1 female goliatus grubs and have been able to see a pattern of weight gain. The males seem to be gaining 3 grams a week, and the female 2 grams. My operation- change substrate, wash the grub and feed moistened koi pellets every 3- 4 days...

    feeding Goliath grubs

A lot of us are raising goliathus. If the beetle grubs eat protein in the wild, has anyone tried feeding the grubs live foods like mealworms?

    Rain beetles

I noticed it's been raining. Anyone know any good spots in Oregon for Pleocomidae? I've caught them in the past, but only on private land when I had a reason to be there in the first place, like picking walnuts... in the 80's

    Beetles of Western North America

Just got this today, a nicely done book, it's going to take a long time to go through. Without quoting specs and sounding like an advertisement,  it's a must have for anyone west of the rockies. A quick look was encouraging with collecting information and ranges for species, somebody might...

    Lucanus elephus and applesauce?

I was cleaning out the fridge, and found some snack cups of applesauce. I've got beetle jellies, and my female elephus has  been happily eating them for months now, but, in the interest of not letting everything go to waste, I put some applesauce in her food cup, I can't tell if she's eating...

    Goliathus goliatus grub not eating

Anyone have any experience with goliatus? I've got a grub that's stopped eating at about 34.8 grams, weighed on the 8th, it's previous weight was 36.7 on 11-24. For some inexplicable reason, it decided to go topside and wander. I emailed Peter at Bugsincyberspace, and attached a photo, he...
