Hellburnt diabolical ironclad - neat color variation from BIC!

Ordered two of these beauties from Bugs In Cyberspace - a color variation called Hellburnt. Instead of being all black, these little guys have pale orange/brown markings! This one is very well camouflaged on his cholla!

    Baby rhino roaches! (AGAIN!)

Baby roach update! The nymphs are going through another molt. I've attached photos of a freshly molted nymph, comparing it to an already molted one as well as one that looks like its ready to pop any moment. :D  You can also see how small they still are compared to mama roach!

    Baby rhino roaches! (AGAIN!)

I am pleased to announce that there is a second batch of babies! I tried to count - I think there's 20ish. I've been expecting the birth for about two weeks now, she was HUGE and looked about to pop. Four more nymphs than last time and a week earlier. :D  The male has been relocated already and...

    Baby rhino roaches! (AGAIN!)

For a couple of days I thought I'd lost one of the little buggers to a bad molt or something, because I could only find fifteen. Number sixteen must have been well hidden somewhere, because when I removed mama roach today and counted, there they all were! Two are taking their time with the...

    Baby rhino roaches! (AGAIN!)

Some more photos of the growing little roaches! I bothered them to count babies again today - all sixteen are still happy and healthy and most of them look like they're about to molt again. I recently got a photo of one of them barely out of the old exoskeleton. Later this month I'm going to...

    Teensy new "friend"

I'm just glad I found him with my eyes instead of my foot! And I didn't have a black light, but my roommate did, so little scorp was taken to the dark bathroom for a photo op.

    Teensy new "friend"

Not the greatest picture, but this is the latest addition to my coffee-table menagerie. A tiny baby bark scorpion who is just barely off of mama's back. Little guy almost got my toes last night in the dark on the kitchen floor! He has been relocated to a small box and is awaiting some...

    Baby rhino roaches! (AGAIN!)

Another little update - another molt is in progress! Here's a freshly molted nymph next to one of its siblings who is almost ready to molt too. I adore how fat and round they get immediately after molting.  Thanks! And sure, they're incredibly easy to care for. I have them in a low, long tank...

    Baby rhino roaches! (AGAIN!)

Another little update: all sixteen babies still going strong and getting bigger! Mama roach was mad as hell that I borrowed her babies for a few minutes. She headbutted me while I was taking them out!

    Baby rhino roaches! (AGAIN!)

Almost exactly three weeks since they were born, and the baby roaches are on their first molt! Took them out for a head count and a quick photo. All sixteen are still there, so I guess mama roach hasn't stepped on anyone too hard. :D

    Baby rhino roaches! (AGAIN!)

An update! The babies are doing really well, mama roach has been hauling every leaf she can get her little claws on into the hide and piling them all up for the babies. They are quite translucent still, so you can see that they've been eating! Papa roach is not happy about being relocated to...

    Baby rhino roaches! (AGAIN!)

At about 3am last night I was checking on my tanks before I went to sleep ... and then sleep was not had until about 5am because MY RHINO ROACHES ARE HAVING BABIES. I saw two little nymphs scurrying around, and there are probably more. I didn't want to disturb them too much, so I put the lid...

    Cactus longhorn eggs!

My tiny group of cactus longhorns have been getting busy, and tonight I found three eggs in the substrate! Sorry for the awful photo but you can at least see the little things. They're like little green seed pods, with dents in them. I've been told they will puff up and hatch when watered, so...

    Visitor on my patio

It figures, I spent tons of time trying to find these guys with no luck (finally did get a few found by other people) and today I found this cactus longhorn crawling along my patio door! It's currently in my desert tank with its buddies. :)
