wait they dont need sandy soil?
They are doing great in artificial substrate I made right now.

Seems that they can be reared without sand as I've seen Japanese people rearing them purely on fermented sawdust

for sand it wont matter what kind right? should i use just fine fish sand or reptile desert sand?
Wait, you have this species?

I haven't used sand but I guess any sand can work on this species as they don't feed on sand.

If you are planning to use sand by chance on S. aloeus you have right now, PLEASE DON'T.

S. aloeus aren't sand dwellers.

no but i always research species before i get them... i know i think someone alreadt told me about s.aloeus dont like sand...

The species seems to grow well in the fermented wood/leaf mulch mix, the pupal cell though is likely to require clay/sand, so I would add some as they are nearing pupation.

The larva of a beetle is lovely.
However, a green caterpillar and a wooly bear dislike me.
I also catch many larvae of a beetle in winter.
Every year.
