  1. Drat, I'm trying not to disturb it too much I was lucky enough to snag the first pic when he came to the surface on his own. I'll try
  2. Found this in a large rotting oak tree two days ago. Any ideas on what it could be? http://imgur.com/u7sBB2o The headphone is there as a size reference. I'm hoping its a D. tityus
  3. Wow! Awesome, yea I just need to go out late. What species is that?
  4. Awesome! Thank you for the suggestions. I had heard that searching at Gas Stations at night is also a good idea.
  5. Yea, I was really surprised to get 2 in the past 2 days!
  6. Thanks my brother and I put that together, Its a fluval edge aquarium with some modified lights so it doesn't get so hot!
  7. Here's an album with the pics Oak http://imgur.com/a/5QvHc
  8. I caught what is I believe a Regal Jumping spider P. regius at the beginning of summer. I am going to assume as with many other arachnids power feeding would likely increase its size but reduce the spiders life span. Like I said though I've only had this one for a month and a half probably so I am not certain. They are neat little guys though; they have great personality!
  9. Just went outside after my post and found another male Lucanus and a Pelidnota punctata which I think is female
  10. Hi, my name is Patrick I am a biology major at IPFW and am graduating in August!! (finally lol) I just recently got into keeping insects, however I have kept tarantulas and many many other animals in the past. (primarily reptiles) I recently bought 5 Asbolus verrucosus from Mr. Clausen, they arrived and are doing great! I think I got 2 males and 3 females I'll probably post pictures later on. I have seen them mating as well which kind of shocked me as I had barely had them out of their shipping container lol. I actually caught a Lucanus capreolus today as well! Anyway I am super excited to learn more about beetles and talking about beetles and other critters with everyone. On a side note, what are some of the larger beetles located in northeastern Indiana. I know Dynastes tityus and Lucanus capreolus are both found here but not quite sure where to begin looking for more? Thanks!
